A must try ‘#Homemade Lava Lamp’😍

This is an amazing #DIY science experiment to do along with 👦👧👩🧑🙋‍♀️💁‍♂️ and i am sure they will enjoy it the most either #observing 👀 or making it themselves! My kiddo was amused to see the colored🔵🔴🔵 water blobs and especially the 👉glow in the dark effect.

This activity is colorful, simple, fun which teaches kids the concept of float & sink; chemical reactions; liquid density; what is carbon- dioxide; air bubbles; dissolve and so on. This #STEM activity (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) requires an easy set-up & materials that you find at home. It is also good for #finemotorskills#patience & learning #measurements.

COLORED LAVA LAMP

You will need-

✳️Tall Glasses/ Mason Jar/ Plastic Transparent Cups

✳️Water

✳️Oil

✳️Gel Food Color

✳️Effervescent Tablets /Eno

Method-

📍Take the container you selected

📍Add in 2/3rd portion of water into it

📍Drop few food color (preferably gel food color for vibrant & better effects)

📍Then pour oil (we used palm oil) and fill it leaving few inches from the top…don’t let it overflow

📍Now it’s time for fun…magic….. drop a piece of Alka- Seltzer tablet as this would give a better effect to the experiment (we used half sachet of Eno as that was only available at home)

📍Let kids watch the reaction.

The following explanation can be shared with kids while performing this activity…

Kids can be given this explanation-
The oil floats on top of the water because it is less dense or lighter than water. The food coloring has the same density as the water so it sink through the oil and mixes with the water. When you add the tablet it sinks to the bottom then starts to dissolve. As it dissolves it makes gas, carbon dioxide. Gas or air, is lighter than water so it floats to the top. The air bubbles bring some colored water with them to the top. When the air comes out of the colored water blob, the water gets heavy again and sinks. It does this over and over again until the tablet is completely dissolved.

Similarly, we can create ……

GLOW IN THE DARK LAVA LAMP

You will need-

✳️Tall Glasses/ Mason Jar/ Plastic Transparent Cups

✳️Water ,Oil

✳️Baking Soda , Vinegar

✳️Food Color (Preferably green), Glow in the Dark gel, Glitter (if required)

✳️Effervescent Tablets /Eno

Method-

📍Take the container you selected

📍Add in 2/3rd portion of water into it

📍Drop the food color , add 1tsp baking soda, 1tsp vinegar and 2 drops of glow in the dark gel.

📍Then pour oil fill it leaving few inches from the top…

📍Now it’s time for fun…magic….. drop a piece of Alka- Seltzer tablet as this would give a better effect to the experiment (we used half sachet of Eno as that was only available at home)

📍Let kids watch the reaction. For better results, what we did is when the room was dark, we switched on our mobile flashlight and faced it on the glass. The glow looked amazing:)

Have you done this #LavaLamp experiment before? Do share pictures & experience….and those who are gonna try it out – do build a curiosity in kids & have fun doing this activity !!!
